Plauen lies in the south-west of Saxony, close to the borders with Bavaria, Thuringia and the Czech Republic. With roughly 64,000 inhabitants it is the largest town of the Vogtland region and its administrative centre. The name is known across Germany for Plauen lace, which has been made here since the nineteenth century. Property prices are low compared with western Germany and the large Saxon cities.
